Position Description
This role will be a part of a 35-person accounting team responsible for the tax compliance and financial accounting of more than 850 legal entities including individuals, trusts, and flow-through entities. Responsibilities include financial accounting functions and critical accounting cycle processes, focused on financial accounting for operating entities.
Responsibilities
- Strong contributor to financial accounting cycle:
- Manage all financial accounting functions for two operating entities:
- Own and execute accounts payable;
- Monitor and proactively collect accounts receivables;
- Manage weekly employee expense reporting cycle;
- Manage cash flows and direct borrowing and loan repayments;
- Own monthly close process, including reconciliation of all major accounts and preparation of financial statements;
- Spearhead annual 1099 process;
- Own and execute intercompany allocation and reconciliation process;
- Manage tax estimate calculation process;
- Manage department discretionary expense reporting process
- Own and execute asset depreciation for both books and tax; and
- Spearhead annual reconciliation support and audit workpapers.
- Monitor and analyze larger enterprise loan portfolio.
- Review ledgers, cash reports, and other documentation to monitor quality of data.
- Leverage systems and automation to record transactions in bulk, perform analytics and support tax compliance cycle.
- Drive tax compliance for one operating entity and support tax compliance for another operating entity.
- Participate in and/or lead process improvement initiatives and critical processes in the accounting cycle.
- Contribute to the creation and/or management of tools designed to support productivity and quality.
- Assist the larger team to provide staff augmentation at various points throughout the annual cycle. Learn and/or cross train outside primary scope of expertise and responsibility.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in accounting; Masters degree in accounting or taxation preferred.
- CPA strongly preferred.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience at a public accounting firm or comparable organization.
- Strong financial accounting skills with some background in/exposure to Federal and State tax compliance, or strong tax compliance background with a demonstrated understanding of financial accounting concepts and a desire to move to a blended tax compliance / financial accounting role.
- Strong analytical skills. Proficiency in Excel and experience with accounting and/or tax compliance software.
- Exhibits high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Advancing technical skillset and ability to complete responsibilities with decreasing oversight as well as advancing ability to communicate within and across teams.
- Ability to effectively communicate concepts to the larger team and to colleagues in other departments. Growing ability to teach/train others in areas of expertise.
- Ability to manage workload/deadlines and take ownership of own workflow planning and deadline planning and management.
