Controller – Family Office

A family office based in North Jersey is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee accounting operations across a diversified portfolio of operating entities and investments. This role will be responsible for full-cycle accounting, accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and providing ownership with clear, timely financial visibility.
Responsibilities
• Own day-to-day accounting operations across multiple entities, including general ledger, journal entries, and month-end close
• Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Maintain and enhance internal controls, policies, and accounting procedures
• Manage cash flow, liquidity planning, and banking relationships
• Oversee account reconciliations and ensure accuracy across all balance sheet accounts
• Coordinate with external accountants on tax filings, audits, and related compliance matters
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
• Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to ownership and senior stakeholders
• Partner closely with ownership to deliver clear insight into financial performance and key drivers
Qualifications
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with strong private accounting background
• Experience in a multi-entity environment; family office, real estate, or investment-related experience strongly preferred
• Demonstrated ability to own the full accounting function with a high degree of autonomy
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
• Experience working with external CPAs, tax advisors, and financial institutions
