The Family Office Controller oversees the day-to-day financial operations of a single-family office within a family-owned company structure. This role supports the principals and senior leadership by providing clear, timely financial information across personal, trust, investment, and operating entities. The position focuses on wealth operations, cash and liquidity management, investment administration, and consolidated reporting, working closely with external advisors including banks, investment managers, tax professionals, and legal counsel. The Family Office Controller serves as a central coordinator of the family’s financial ecosystem, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and disciplined execution.
This role is best suited for a professional with experience in wealth management, private banking, or a family office environment, who brings strong financial fundamentals and a proactive, service-oriented approach.
Training/Education
CPA required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Advanced degree a plus (MBA, MS Accounting/Finance)
Experience/Skills
8–12+ years of progressive experience in a family office, closely held or family-owned business, or public accounting environment
Demonstrated experience serving as a Controller or senior accounting professional with end-to-end responsibility for financial operations
Deep GAAP expertise and experience managing multi-entity accounting structures including trusts, partnerships, LLCs, and operating companies
Hands-on experience managing bill pay, expense approvals, cash disbursements, and banking activities
Strong investment accounting literacy, including monitoring, reconciliation, and reporting of investment activity
Experience reviewing K-1s, investment statements, and coordinating with external advisors
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and process-driven
Strong judgment, discretion, and integrity
Ability to work independently, manage recurring deadlines, and maintain strict confidentiality
