Role:

Our client is seeking a Controller with a strong accounting foundation and an interest in both investment and philanthropic operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the finance and reporting activities across a range of entities, including personal, corporate, trust, and foundation structures. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in building and operating a high-integrity, multi-entity finance function that supports a dynamic and values-driven family enterprise.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with external accounting and tax advisors to develop a comprehensive understanding of the financial landscape and reporting obligations for each family entity and stakeholder.
  • Collaborate with family office leadership to design and execute a transition plan to bring accounting and reporting functions in-house over time.
  • Oversee day-to-day finance operations, including:
  • General ledger bookkeeping and account reconciliation
  • Cash management and investment transaction support, including capital calls
  • Execution of corporate dividend and distribution activities
  • Preparation and filing of personal tax returns for family members
  • Compilation of annual tax filings and financial statements for corporate and trust entities
  • Manage the financial and compliance responsibilities of philanthropic foundations:
  • Coordinate with auditors and accountants to prepare annual financial statements and manage audit engagements
  • Ensure adherence to disbursement quota requirements and other regulatory obligations
  • Stay informed of tax and regulatory changes impacting the charitable sector in Canada
